Jo Fooks Quartet
A delightful evening of warm easy flowing and swinging jazz. Jo interacted with the audience in her own inimitable relaxed style. She shared with us not only musical information but also little insights into her family and her interest in Ping Pong, playing a tune of the same name. We heard refreshing interpretations of many standards but importantly several of her own compositions. The quartet complemented each other perfectly with sensitive drumming from Bobby Worth. We were also treated to vocals from Steve Thompson on ‘Sunny Side of the Street’ and ‘I Can’t Give You Anything But Love’ with his accompanying melodic bass and Ted Beament with beautiful trio renderings of Satin Doll and Body and Soul. Jo’s playing is something special with improvisations that never lose their way, but always with a few surprises. Another really enjoyable session at CJC.
