We are delighted to have persuaded Winston Clifford to select a fascinating group of his musicians of choice for this visit to CJC.
Winston’s creative percussion virtuosity is legendary. He studied with Trevor Tomkins at the Guildhall School of Music and has played with many greats of the jazz world including Benny Golson, Slim Gaillard, Archie Shepp, Freddy Hubbard, Art Farmer, Monty Alexander, Andy Sheppard, Courtney Pine and a host of others. Current engagements include Roger Beaujolais Quartet, Art Themen, Nigel Thomas, Edison Herbert, Tina May and Derek Nash.
Mark Lockheart first came to prominence in the mid-1980s with the influential big band Loose Tubes. In 2013, Mark released ‘Ellington In Anticipation,' a radical reworking of Ellington melodies with an all-star line up, including Seb Rochford, Liam Noble, Finn Peters, James Allsop and Tom Herbert. The CD had many four- and five-star reviews and was MOJO magazine’s ‘Jazz Album of 2013’ and nominated as ‘Best Jazz CD of 2013’ by the APPJC at the 2014 Parliamentary Awards.
The accomplished and creative pianist Mark Edwards has played frequently with Scott Hamilton, Mornington Locket and Bobby Wellins.
Andy Hamill has played bass with singers Mark Murphy, Laura Mvula, Eska, Natacha Atlas and Annie Lennox. He has produced albums for members of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, his wife - singer songwriter Rebecca Hollweg and his own album of bass and voice duets, 'Bee for Bass'.
