Richard Pite has assembled the UK’s first musical presentation encompassing the history of jazz, from its beginnings in Ragtime to the present day. Key to the performance’s enormous success is Richard’s choice of musicians, who all possess considerable experience right across the jazz spectrum and love what they do; furthermore they are also expert players of an array of instruments - only a small selection of which are shown in the line up details below!

These six multi-instrumental jazz virtuosi create a highly entertaining journey through the decades taking in everything from New Orleans to Be Bop, Swing to Latin, Hot to Cool, from Chicago and New York to around the world. An A to Z of jazz’s biggest names from Louis Armstrong to Joe Zawinul lives again in the ensemble’s brilliant recreations.

The music is interspersed with fascinating stories from the jazz archives as well as the inimitable humour of the band’s musical director Pete Long.

Some of our members have previously seen 100 Years of Jazz elsewhere and insist we bring this unique and exciting band to CJC. Well, we have and we anticipate a memorable evening and hope that your reaction will be similar to the sample of those views already expressed:

Listening to this remarkably versatile small band of musicians tackle the contemporary jazz of Abdullah Ibrahim with the same fervour and intensity as they produced for Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" or Sidney Bechet's 1920s romping New Orleans jazz was a tremendous experience. Every era is evoked with complete conviction... Alyn Shipton, Jazz Critic for The Times

The brilliant "100 Years of Jazz" eschewed cheap send-ups but was in fact full of real information delivered with humour. Brian Balin, Jazz UK

“100 Years of Jazz” thrilled the audience with technical virtuosity, entertained them with sharp and informative links between tunes and at the end of the set won a standing ovation. Simply brilliant! Fred Lindup, Director of Swanage Jazz Festival.
