Now in its 13th year, the band has played with all the poise and unity of purpose that makes for perfect small-band jazz. Only the very best and most mature musicians can achieve this degree of simplicity.
Now 71, Henry Lowther has been described as 'sounding as casually sprightly as ever' with 'a bottomless supply of uncliched improvised melody'. Guitarist Jim Mullen characteristically combines swing with a soulful tone and and Dave Green, bass and Stu Butterfield, drums are a rock-solid rhythm section.
Their large, varied repertoire includes a few originals plus tunes like, 'I Love You Porgy', 'The Sound of Music' (really!), and 'I Concentrate on You', with jazz standards by Ellington, Monk and Clifford Brown,
