In place of the Sophie Smith Quartet, we are delighted to confirm that the Georgia Mancio Quartet will be with us presenting a special tribute to the American singer Anita O’Day. An award-winning jazz vocalist, lyricist and producer Georgia has established herself as one of the UK’s most important new artists. Her critically acclaimed 2010 album Silhouette demonstrated her formidable skills as a lyricist and songwriter as well as her highly individual interpretations of jazz standards and Latin American song.
She has performed with jazz luminaries Bobby McFerrin, Sheila Jordan and Ian Shaw and toured extensively in the UK and overseas. She has also secured an enviable reputation as a producer curating a prestigious annual Voice Festival at The Pizza Express Jazz Club.
Anita O’Day - a real hero of Georgia’s – who is often grouped with the West Coast cool school of jazz, is known for her hard swing, rhythm and melody. We can expect fine interpretations of some great standards.
With Georgia tonight will be John Pearce on piano, Julie Walkington - bass and Dave Ohm - drums.
Guest admission: £12.
All meetings start at 7.45pm - doors open at 6.30pm
