After ten years working with George Melly, as well as Terry Lightfoot and Acker Bilk and touring extensively in Europe, Jonathan Vinten recently formed a band of highly creative and experienced musicians, all with a pedigree to rival his own.
Playing a mix of jazz styles embracing many genres, tonight’s performance will be based on the band’s fine album, Quirky, featuring the music of Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Louis Jordan, original compositions by Jonathan, and many others. Among the epithets on the sleeve note are fiery, mellow, light-toned, eloquent, reflective, funky, harmonious, and hot.
Tonight's line-up is JJ Vinten - piano, Alan Bateman – trumpet, Dave Hewett – trombone and baritone-horn, Goff Dubber – clarinet and saxes, Andy Lawrence – bass, Colin Miller - drums.
Other musical influences include vocalists such as Harry Connick Jr, Jamie Cullum and Michael Buble and, overall, the internationally acknowledged musicians are recognised as being foremost in recreating the Great American Jazz Age.
